Car Inspection in Singapore: When It Is Due, What Is Checked, What It Costs

Cars under 3 years old need no periodic inspection. From 3 to 10 years old a car is inspected every 2 years, and after 10 years every year. You can go any time in the 3 months before the due date; an inspection earlier than that does not count for road tax. The fee published in April 2024 was S$68.67, with S$34.34 for a re-inspection.

What to Do After a Car Accident in Singapore

Make the scene safe, call your insurer's 24-hour hotline, exchange names, NRIC or FIN, phone numbers, addresses and insurers, and photograph all the vehicles and the scene. Then report the accident, with the car, at your insurer's approved reporting centre or authorised workshop within 24 hours or by the next working day, even if there is no visible damage.

Will an Independent Workshop Void My Car Warranty in Singapore?

No, not on that ground alone. After the 2017 car parts market inquiry, major dealers amended warranty terms that let them reject claims just because an independent workshop serviced the car. A dealer can still reject a claim where the third-party work caused the defect, scheduled servicing was missed, or non-spec or modified parts were used. Keep dated invoices.

How to Choose a Car Workshop in Singapore

Choose a workshop that gives an itemised written quote with parts, labour and GST shown, tells you which parts it will use, diagnoses before replacing parts, offers a warranty on its work, and gives a dated invoice you can keep for your car warranty. Check its opening hours and how recent its customer reviews are.
