# Car Aircon Not Cold? Causes, Fixes and Costs in Singapore

Updated 2026-10-11 · Wrenchmap

Short answer: Warm air from a car aircon is usually low refrigerant from a leak, a blocked condenser, a compressor fault or a blown fuse. Weak airflow is most often a clogged cabin filter. Published Singapore costs run from S$15 to S$40 for a filter and S$50 to S$80 for a regas, up to S$1,200 to S$2,500 to replace a compressor.

## Start with the symptom

The symptom points to the likely cause ([GetGo](https://www.getgo.sg/blog/car-ac-how-to-repair-guide)):

What you notice Most likely cause
Air is warm or only slightly cool Low refrigerant (a leak), blocked condenser, compressor fault, blown fuse
Airflow is weak on every setting Clogged cabin air filter, failing blower motor
Musty smell, water on the passenger floor Mould on the evaporator, blocked drain
New noise when the aircon switches on Compressor or another moving part

## What each fix costs

GetGo’s Singapore guide publishes these ranges ([GetGo](https://www.getgo.sg/blog/car-ac-how-to-repair-guide)):

 Fix Published cost
Cabin air filter S$15 to S$40
Aircon spray treatment S$10 to S$20
Refrigerant recharge (regas) S$50 to S$80
 Compressor repair S$500 to S$1,500
 Compressor replacement S$1,200 to S$2,500

The spread between the cheapest and the dearest fix is the reason to get a diagnosis before agreeing to work. A workshop that goes straight to the compressor without testing pressures and checking the condenser, fan and fuse has skipped steps.

## Do this before you book

- Check the cabin filter (often behind the glovebox). If it is black and clogged, that alone can explain weak airflow.

- Note when it is worst: idling in traffic, or all the time? At speed, or never?

- Listen for a click when you switch the aircon on: that is the compressor clutch engaging.

## Two things not to do

- Do not regas it yourself. GetGo warns that improper recharging can lead to explosions or frostbite on skin contact, and a top-up never fixes the leak.

- Do not pressure-wash the condenser. It can damage the fins and puncture it.

## How often to service

GetGo suggests a new cabin filter every 10,000 to 15,000 km or every 12 months, whichever comes first, and a condenser clean every 6 to 12 months. In Singapore the aircon works every day, so it is worth doing on schedule.

## More questions

Why does my aircon get cold only when the car is moving? +
Better cooling at speed often points to a condenser or cooling-fan problem, because moving air helps the condenser shed heat. Have the fan and condenser checked. Is a regas enough? +
Only if the system is not leaking. If the gas has gone, it went somewhere, so ask for a leak test first or the regas will not last. Why does my car aircon smell musty? +
Mould or bacteria on the evaporator behind the dashboard. An evaporator clean and a new cabin filter usually fix it. [Find a workshopCar aircon27 workshops listed](/service/car-aircon/)
